Presentation Plan, Sonneveld House
Sonneveld House, elevation I
Robinia pseudoacacia planted throughout the grounds. I wanted to create a natural canopy and to lift the vegetation line to above the heads of people visiting the site.
the site will retain its original English Yew hedges, I've added more to complete the border around the yard. The Sonneveld House project, completed January 2010. The Sonneveld project was a difficult one for me as I am trying to push myself to understand and appreciate residential architecture especially as how they relate to specific movements, in this case nieuwe bouwen modernist movement in the 1930's. I struggled with a design and even in the end felt like there was a ways to go in completing my thoughts and developing my design. I agree with Tim when he says not everything was"resolved" with my design.
My concept was developed around the visual impact of agriculture and farmed land. I wanted to focus on this idea specifically because Holland is a patchwork of agricultural land and irrigation canals and is extremely important to the economy of the Netherlands. The water feature is designed to mirror the canals that run along the farmed land and to conjure the image of infinity or the endless canal. To me, the irrigation channels that were visible while driving past seemed to be endless and ran into the horizon and I wanted to emulate this with my water feature seeming to continue beyond the barriers of the yard and the house.
This is posted in an effort to build and expand my digital portfolio.
